Wi-Fi Campus

Internet Facility

The Institute is providing Internet facility 24*7 to all the users in the Campus including teaching, administrative staff, hostels as well as the students. The Internet Facility in the JBIT is on the lease line from Bharti Airtel with (1:1) 4 Mbps speed.

IT Facilities (Introduction)

Recognizing the crucial importance of computer networking, JBIT initiated its efforts by evolving a plan for developing a Campus Wide Computer Network with a mandate to link together all the computing resources located in different departments, centres and other buildings of the Campus for easy and effective access by the JBIT community comprising of faculty, scientific and research personnel, students, and staff to a host within and/or outside the College of IT- based services such as the e-mail, internet, and access to a large variety of knowledge sources available. The IT-Cell with an emphasis to make JB Institute of Technology an IT enabled Campus. Realizing that the Campus Network is the backbone for the implementation of Intranet and Internet applications, the Campus Networking project was conceived and proposed. Campus Networking & Internet Group headed by Ravinder Giri was constituted to implement the project in a phased manner. The first phase of the project was implemented and commissioned on May 2009.

Under this phase all departments [Teaching/non-Teaching] of the JBIT are connected with Networking Control Room with Central Switch and other related equipment [Hardware/Software] and infrastructure is established in the Department of Computer Science & IT. The Campus Networking project took concrete shape when in SEP - 2009 a robust networking backbone, based cabling spread over a distance extending to various departments of the JBIT was commissioned using D-Link DS1228 series central switch using backend switches (TL-SL 2428WEB ) and JBIT campus is a Wi-Fi campus with access to Internet and e-mail for 7*24 hours, the Electronic mail and other computing facilities for all the working hours. The work of continuous up gradation of non networked PCs is in progress.

Security

Special consideration is given to the security of the network by using Symantec Antivirus and Firewall. This firewall safe guard the network from the outside threats and intrusions. Load Balancing, Bandwidth Management, Monitoring of User Internet activity and Gateway level antivirus, Anti-Spam is done with the SmartGuard.

IT Facilities(Computing Services)

The computing resources at the JBIT are provided for use by staff and students in support of teaching, learning, research, consultancy and administrative activities. JBIT invests significant resources in the provision of computing resources for JBIT community, and wishes to encourage appropriate use by students and staff. In order to ensure maximum access, computing resources must be used in a responsible way.

Besides central computing facilities each department of the College has its own computing resources. These resources had access to word processing, statistical and database packages, the Internet, e-mail and print services.

All staff, students and administrative staff have access to these services on all working days of the College.
